The most exotic items used in the project were the displacement diffusers, the underfloor air distribution system, and the condensing boilers.
Water Conservation
Grey water discharged from the University cooling plant is used for toilet flushing. (The discharge greatly exceeds the toilet flushing requirements).
Dual flush toilets and waterless urinals promote awareness of water-efficient technologies.
Lavatory faucets are low flow with an automatic shutoff.
Stormwater is directed to a pond serving the west campus. The pond collects and retains stormwater with a delayed discharge so that flows remain within the capacities of existing downstream storm sewers during projected peak periods of flow.
The detention of the stormwater allows suspended solids to settle before the stormwater enters the Bow River. Emergent plant matter around the perimeter of the pond absorbs nutrients in the water, improving water quality.

The building has a photovoltaic system with a peak capacity of 43 kW. Monitoring shows that this generates about 54,000 kWh per year - about 10% of electricity use.
